Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few weeks – you’re fully aware that most of the United States and other countries are under quarantine for the coronavirus pandemic and that all masses in most areas are canceled for the time being.
Which begs the question – how are you staying faithful – even though Church itself is closed.
Here’s what I’m doing in order to continue my faith life during quarantine
- Go to church anyways – in other words I watch church on YouTube or listen to it on the radio – our priest worked out a deal with the local radio station and we’ve been listening to it over the radio. I personally prefer Youtube mass because then I can see the actual priest and go through the motions of going to mass. It’s definitely harder not being there.
- Prayer – I’ve been praying a lot lately – both reflective prayer and the Rosary, I should be doing more lecto divina but I’m not the best at that – but I try to pray once every day even if its just between me and God.
- Bible Study – I joined a womens bible study through my church and we’re continuing it through zoom through this crazy time. It’s a lot of fun and I’ve been able to get to know and meet other women from church.
- Reading a Catholic book – in other words – I try to read a Catholic author at least once a week – last week I devoured The Catholic Table by Emily Stimpson Chapman. It was a delight.
- Collection envelopes and miscellaneous – We’ve given our collection envelopes back to the church during this time because we can and also have tried to help small businesses in some ways – by tipping well etc, choosing local vendors over big box stores. That’s really made my soul feel good.
