I’ve lived in my house for about five years now and one of the things that I’ve never really done is use the backyard. Granted I’ve been in the backyard, I have a garden back there but I haven’t really used it as a space to hang out.
With quarantine going on – I decided if we’re going to be stuck at home more often than we’re going to use it. So we got a picnic table from Menards, I painted it a cute color and put up some Shepard hooks from my father in law that I can hang lights on. I love it now that there’s a space that we can use to hang out in the yard with family and friends. Its definitely bringing me joy.
And that’s the topic for today’s post. Joy is something that we should all choose especially now in this time of uncertainty. It may be hard – people have lost jobs, lost someone they love, not been able to see family or friends. But they should not lose hope. Find joy in the small, simple even mundane things. Even something as simple as flowers or even a picnic table can bring joy and a smile to your face. Make a place in your home for joy – even if its a small space – decorate it and bring things in that make you happy. This way you have a space that every time you step into it – you feel immediately at ease.
Choose joy because the alternative to that is to choose despair and if we despair than we are not opening up to the graces and blessings that we are given.
So much in our hearts we want certainty but there’s is so much about the future that is unknown. When it comes to the future, we worry and we let it steal our joy. And we shouldn’t, we should look to past moments of certainty and the wonderful memories that we do have. Bring joy into your life with this. Don’t bring worry or despair about the future. Everything will work out as it should be. Be open to grace, be open to blessings that may come into your life. Choose joy. Even if its as simple as using your own backyard- choose joy.
